Jonathan Ferris is a program coordinator at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, British Columbia, where he oversees practicum placements for teacher candidates, supervises faculty mentors, and teaches courses on classroom management, professionalism, ethics, and teacher presence. His passion for student learning has driven many innovative contributions in his school community, including co-chairing the SNAP and ACT assessments. Through his work as an education assistant, classroom teacher, district helping teacher, principal, and educational consultant, Jonathan amassed a wealth of understanding, skill, and knowledge.

Jonathan is a member of a collaborative learning committee (composed of members from the University of the Fraser Valley and Chilliwack School District) that facilitates joint learning opportunities between the two learning organizations. When he was a principal, Jonathan’s school was featured in The Globe and Mail newspaper for innovation regarding awards assemblies, and on Global News Television for student engagement during the COVID-19 shutdown. Jonathan wrote the foreword to P.L.A.N. for Better Learning by Kevin Bird and Kirk Savage (2015), and coauthored chapters in Online Learning and

Teaching From Kindergarten to Graduate School.

Jonathan earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of British Columbia and a master’s degree in leadership in curriculum and instruction from San Diego State University.
